Freshman had several top Spanish Championships performances during prep career.
The "Get To Know Me" series picks back up and today features Diego Lara Delgado. The freshman from Granada, Spain, joined the University of Memphis cross country program this fall after a stellar high school career at I.E.S. Trevenque. Lara Delgado ran in several Spanish national championships events in both cross country and track and field and had impressive finishes. However, a competition where Lara Delgado admits he would not do so well is if he appeared on NBC's The Voice.

- How did you get into distance running? My hometown holds a race each year, and I wanted to win it. I began training for that race, and have been training ever since. I want to win every race in which I run.
- What has been your most embarrassing moment in a meet/event? My watch alarm sounding off during a race.
- How many times have people told you distance running is outrageous? How do you respond to them? A lot of people tell me this. I respond, "I like doing this thing you call outrageous."
- If you weren't a distance runner, what track and field event would you like to compete in? I would like to try the high jump.
- What is the best advice you can give to young distance runners? Being consistent is the key to success. Also, don't ever give up.Â

- When not at practice, what can someone find you doing? Having fun with my friends
- What did you do this past summer? Spent time with family and friends (my second family) and traveled around my home country of Spain
- Do you have an interesting nickname? Any story behind the nickname? I am called "Dieguito" because of my height (Ha! Ha!)
- If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money? At this time, I'll tell you that I would spend it helping others. But, ask me again when I win.
- Do you have a hidden talent? If so, explain. I dance pretty well to Spanish music. Still need to learn how to dance to American music.
- If you were a superhero, what super power would you have? Run fast (Ha! Ha!)
- If you could compete in another sport, which sport would it be? Why? Soccer absolutely. When I was a child, I had to choose a sport (and I chose correctly), but I love soccer too.
