MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team has added Francis Sargeant as a volunteer assistant coach it was announced by head coach Paul Goebel, Wednesday.
"We are excited to add Francis to our coaching staff," Goebel said. "He was an outstanding player in college and has a very high work ethic. He will be a great example to our team and any time you can add someone that wants to pursue a career in college coaching, it helps your program."
Sargeant was a four-year letterwinner at BYU, leaving as the program's No. 6 all-time winner on the all-time wins list with 91 career singles wins. A two time, second-team All-WCC honoree in singles, Sargeant was 91-48 in singles at BYU and 78-42 in doubles play. Sargeant was also first team All-WCC in doubles in 2013. He helped BYU to the NCAA tournament in 2013 and 2014, facing Memphis in the first round of the tournament in 2013.
A native of Beckenham in the UK, graduated from BYU with a degree in sociology in 2015. In 2010 and 2011, he was the No. 1 ranked U18 player in the UK and was a two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete.
