Get To Know Me: Lauren Wheeler

GoTigersGo.com continues this week with its "Get To Know Me" series, and today features sophomore Lauren Wheeler. Last season, Wheeler was one of four Tigers to run in all six cross country events. She posted her 6k season-best time at the NCAA South Regional. Wheeler earned a 4.0 grade-point average and also was named to the Dean's List both semesters as a freshman in 2014-15.

How did you get into distance running? I was in the sixth grade when my dad's friend, Brian, called one morning to ask if I wanted to run the Purple Striders 5k. I tried it out and immediately loved it!
What has been your most embarrassing moment in a meet/event? I got on the line for my 800m race and went to take of my sweatshirt and sweatpants and realized I didn't have my jersey on!
How many times have people told you distance running is outrageous? How do you respond to them? Literally, EVERYONE! It makes me laugh every time. People usually say, "How do you run that far? I can't even get myself to run one mile!"
If you weren't a distance runner, what track and field event would you like to compete in? I think competing in a hurdle event would be really fun!
What is the best advice you can give to young distance runners? Always trust in God and your ability as a runner. Without confidence in yourself and your abilities, you will never reach your full potential as an athlete.

Which form of social media do you prefer the most? Why? Snapchat! It's great getting to keep in touch with friends back home!

Miscellaneous

When not at practice, what can someone find you doing? Playing beach volleyball/ultimate Frisbee or hanging out with friends!
What did you do this past summer? I took a trip to the beach with my friends, babysat, and ran a ton of miles!
If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money? I would save it until I had the time to travel. I would LOVE to spend some time traveling and sightseeing!
If you were a superhero, what super power would you have? Read people's minds!
If you could compete in another sport, which sport would it be? Why? I have always wanted to play volleyball!
