Lynch Named TSWA Player of the Week

Memphis QB coming off career performance
University of Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch, who established a new career high for passing yards in the Tigers' convincing 55-23 win over Kansas, has been named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

Lynch completed 22-of-25 passes for 354 yards and two touchdowns in the Tigers' victory last week, the first win for the UofM over a Power 5 conference school since 2004. The Deltona, Fla., native tossed TD throws of six and three yards to cap drives of 80 and 75 yards.

The junior has thrown for 432 yards and three touchdowns in two games this season. Memphis is 2-0 for the first time since winning its first three contests in 2004.

Tennessee linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin was named the TSWA Defensive Players of the Week.

Memphis plays on the road Saturday at Bowling Green, which is coming off a win at Maryland. The Tigers are back at home next Thursday, Sept. 24 when they play host to American Athletic Conference East Division preseason favorite Cincinnati in a game which will be televised nationally by ESPN.
