Memphis Powers Past Austin Peay, 10-5

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Memphis blasted three home runs to cruise past Austin Peay, 10-5, Tuesday night at Raymond C. Hand Park. First baseman Tucker Tubbs extended his streak of consecutive games with a home run to six.
The Tigers (23-10, 5-4 AAC) will return to FedExPark to host Belmont Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Alex Gunn had another great start on the mound for Memphis. The senior lefthander allowed two runs on five hits in seven innings of work. He finished with five strikeouts. He improved his record to 4-0 this season.
Right fielder Chris Carrier got the Tigers off to a great start in the top of the first inning with a three-run homer to left field. Left fielder Kane Barrow singled with two outs ahead of Carrier before Tucker Tubbs walked.
Austin Peay got a run back in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by left fielder Cayce Bredlau.
With one out in the top of the third Tucker Tubbs homered for a sixth consecutive game. The Tigers' senior first baseman has seven home runs and nine RBI in the last six games.
It also marked the sixth straight game for Memphis to hit multiple home runs. The Tigers have hit a total of 15 home runs over the six-game stretch after hitting just nine through the first 27 games of the season.
The Governors got another run back in the fourth inning after an RBI double by right fielder Josh Wilson.
Designated hitter Corey Chafin made Austin Peay pay for a pair of free passes with a three-run home run to left field in the top of the fifth. Barrow was hit by a pitch and Tucker Tubbs walked to start the inning.
Darien Tubbs added to the Memphis lead in the sixth after reaching on a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt. He stole second and third base and scored on an RBI ground out by Brandon Montgomery.
Carrier helped tack on another run in the seventh when he doubled with two outs and moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored on an RBI ground out by Zach Schritenthal.
Another run came home in the eighth after shortstop Jake Overbey reached on an error and advanced to second. He was pinch run for by Jacob Elliot, who scored on a single by Barrow.
Austin Peay tacked on three runs in the ninth inning to make the final score 10-5.
