Dec 08, 2015 | Men's Basketball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Coaching for Literacy (CFL) is proud to partner with Coach Josh Pastner and the Memphis Tigers for a fourth consecutive year. The Tigers and Coach Josh Pastner will host the Assistant Coach Program experience on December 18, 2015, when they take on the Ole Miss Rebels. Funds will be directed to literacy work at STREETS in Memphis, Tennessee.
"As one of the initial supporters of Coaching for Literacy, I have seen first-hand the rapid progress of this program," said Coach Pastner. "Our athletic program has greatly benefitted from being educated on the problem of illiteracy and how to directly impact our community."
Coaching for Literacy's mission is to utilize the power of sports to raise awareness about illiteracy in America and generate financial support for effective, local literacy programs. Memphis joins 17 NCAA basketball programs, 3 NCAA football programs, and 1 NBA franchise as a partner of CFL's Assistant Coach Program.
CFL's Assistant Coach Program achieves its mission to raise funds and generate awareness. A donor makes a contribution to support the local literacy initiatives of Streets Ministries. In return, the donor receives two all-access tickets to experience a Memphis Tigers basketball game like never before. The all-access experience includes the following: two courtside seats, access to the locker room, admittance to the postgame interviews, autographed Memphis memorabilia, a picture with Head Coach Josh Pastner and CFL-themed apparel by Peter Millar.
Only one person can receive the two all-access tickets. If you are interested in this opportunity to create a great impact and receive a great experience, refer to Coaching for Literacy's Memphis Assistant Coach Program page.
STREETS aims to engage, encourage and empower impoverished youth in some of Memphis' toughest neighborhoods through a wide range of educational, athletic and mentor based programming. STREETS provides the facilities, staff and programming to address both the immediate and long term needs of the students served. Funding will provide students literacy support through Streets Smarts, Ready Readers and A-Z curriculum.
"It has been a privilege to partner with Coaching for Literacy in a collaborative effort to decrease illiteracy while increasing life-long learning," said Reggie Davis, Executive Director of STREETS. "The support we receive from Coaching for Literacy directly impacts the lives of young scholars at Kingsbury Elementary School through our in-school, Ready Readers, and after-school, Streets Smart, programs."
Ryan Viner, Executive Director of Coaching for Literacy, said: "There is not one coach in America that has been more supportive of this initiative than Josh Pastner. We are grateful that the University of Memphis displays its care for young students in this community by their involvement in Coaching for Literacy's nationwide fight for literacy."
