Softball Wraps Up Early Signing Class With Addition of Parker

Parker rounds out early signees for Tiger softball.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis softball team wrapped up its early signee announcements Friday with the addition of middle infielder Erin Parker (Louisville, Ky./North Oldham HS). Parker will be the sixth newcomer for Memphis out of the early signing period and will be the second Tiger out of the state of Kentucky for head coach Natalie Poole.
Parker has lettered in softball since seventh grade, playing on the varsity team at North Oldham High School. Playing at either shortstop or second base, she made a mark on the base path, setting a school record for consecutive stolen bases (29) last season.
"Her stolen bases record and her speed are one of the things that attracted us to Erin," Poole said. "She's a great shortstop, but she can probably play either side, second or short. She got a great arm, she works really hard and she's got tremendous speed, so I think she's going to stand out right away. And again, she is someone who wants to come play for Memphis and we're excited to have her here."
The daughter of David and Jodi Parker, Erin has been on the honor roll all of her prep career at North Oldham and was an all-region honoree last year. She was also named all-district beginning in her eighth grade season.
Parker most recently played club softball with the Tennessee Illusions under coaches Tonia Martin and Matt Ballard, and also played with the Colorado Stars, coached by Dane Craig.
She rounds out an early signing class of six newcomers, two of which will join the Memphis roster next month when the spring semester starts.
"I feel like this class is a good balance of all positions," Poole said. "One or two of those kids could play either infield or outfield for us and we added some help pitching and catching and on the corners. That's really what we needed, some athletic people who could do some different things and add some depth to some areas that we need to shore up."
Parker will be the second Tiger from Kentucky on the roster, joining Bowling Green's Brittany Vaughn. She is part of a six-player early signing class for the Tigers. She joins Sara Ann Davidson (Ripley, Tenn./Ripley HS), Regan Hadley (Georgetown, Ind./Floyd Central HS), Rebeca Melton (Charlotte, Tenn./Creek Wood HS), Adrianna Morgan (Lake Cormorant, Miss./Lake Cormorant HS) and Xiomara Santiago (Cleveland, Ohio/North Royalton HS). Hadley and Morgan will both graduate this month and will join Memphis for the 2016 season in January.
