FedExForum Announces New Security Procedures for All Events
Dec 03, 2015 | Men's Basketball
Memphis, Tenn. – The enhanced security measures, effective at FedExForum as of Oct. 6 for all NBA games, will now be standard for all events at FedExForum, including concerts, shows and University of Memphis events, the venue announced today.
Walk-through magnetometers were installed at FedExForum under the premise of being used at all Memphis Grizzlies games, as per an NBA mandate conceptualized this summer during league security meetings. The magnetometers have become an industry standard across MLB, NBL and NFL venues and their use will now be mandatory for every FedExForum event in order to improve fan safety and guest experience, a shared goal between FedExForum, the University of Memphis and touring production companies.
"The enhanced security procedures are in line with what has become standard practice for major venues throughout the U.S." said Eric Granger, vice president of arena operations at FedExForum. "A consistent security protocol is necessary to help ensure a safe experience for all fans, employees, media, athletes and performers."
"Fan safety is a major area of focus for us at the University of Memphis," said Memphis Director of Athletics Tom Bowen. "These upgrades to security at FedExForum will allow our fans to fully enjoy the experience of Tiger Basketball."
"As a concert promoter, our number one priority is the safety of our audience," said Barry Leff, vice president of Beaver Productions. "We applaud FedExForum for being proactive in creative a safer environment for all fans."
FedExForum guests are advised to bring only necessary items to the games to help expedite screenings. Separate express lanes will be available for guests in the Grand Lobby without bags to be inspected. FedExForum guests will not need to remove their hats, shoes, belts, watches or jewelry as with airport security. Instead, guests will have to place their cell phones, cameras and keys on a security table prior to walking through the metal detector. Expectant mothers, those with pacemakers and ADA guests are not subject to the magnetometers and will instead be screened through handheld devices.
Media will continue to enter FedExForum through the Media Entrance on Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave. where they will be subject to screening and bag inspections as well.
