MEMPHIS – Senior offensive lineman Taylor Fallin (Bowie, Md./Bowie HS/Hargrave Military Academy) has accepted an invitation to play in the 91st East-West Shrine Game at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., Jan. 23rd.
Fallin, who was named an American Athletic Conference first team honoree on Wednesday, has started 34 games, including 32 over the past three seasons, of his Tiger career. He has played 2,509 career offensive snaps, including 735 plays in 2015. This year, he has been part of an offense that has set a school record with 6,125 total yards of offense. Memphis ranks 12th nationally in total offense, averaging 510 yards per game. The Tigers' 42.7 points per game ranks seventh in the NCAA.
This is the second consecutive year the Tigers have had a representative in the East-West Shrine Game. Last year, three Tigers played in the event – defensive lineman Martin Ifedi, safety Fritz Etienne and corner Bobby McCain. Before that, Jordan Devey was the last Tiger to appear in the annual game in 2013.
The East-West Shrine Game is a showcase for up-and-coming NFL talent as national media and scouts from every professional team spend the week in St. Petersburg around the players. More than 100 players from last year's game were invited to NFL training camps, and more than 70 made NFL rosters. The game also raises money and awareness for Shriners Hospitals for Children. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a nonprofit organization that provides pediatric specialty care with 22 locations in the United States, Canada and Mexico. They provide advanced care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate.
General admission tickets for the game, which will be played at 4 p.m. (ET), are on sale now for $15 through Ticketmaster. Tickets can also be purchased on game day at the Tropicana Field Box Office.
