Final Practice, Team Events Highlight Tigers’ Day

Countdown begins for Memphis Football ahead of Birmingham Bowl
The University of Memphis' second full day in Birmingham began on Monday with an adjustment to its practice schedule and concluded with the second of two joint team events that filled the day.
With approaching storms, Memphis' morning practice was moved up an hour but the Tigers still spent much of the practice working out in a driving rain. Despite heavy weather which moved into the Birmingham area during the morning hours, none of the early morning rains produced thunderstorms or lightning, allowing the team to get in the full practice.
"The forecast for Wednesday calls for the possibility of rain and wind. Both teams would have to play in those conditions but it was good for us to get this type of work in today," Memphis interim head coach Darrell Dickey said after the rain-soaked practice session. "We moved around and handled the ball well. We got our work in and now start our countdown to kickoff."
Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Legion Field. Tickets remain on sale through the Memphis Athletic Ticket Office at www.gotigersgotix.com and will be available at will call set up at the team hotel on Tuesday and the stadium Wednesday morning.
Monday's practice was the second of two in as many days at Birmingham Southern College. The Tigers will have a walk through at Legion Field on Tuesday.
"Yesterday was a rusty, sluggish practice," Dickey said. "Today, even though the conditions were not the greatest in the world, we had a real good practice from an execution standpoint. Guys are starting to get dialed in and focused."
Memphis student-athletes also attended two joint team events. Several members of the Tigers team visited patients at Children's of Alabama hospital on Monday afternoon. The two teams attended an evening event, which featured bowling and barbecue later in the day at Vestavia Bowl.
