Tigers Rifle Places Seventh At NCAA Championships Rehearsal

Lee, Dempster lead Memphis at last weekend's event.
AKRON, Ohio – Senor Beth Lee recorded a top-10 performance in air rifle to pace the University of Memphis rifle squad's effort at the NCAA Championships Rehearsal this past weekend. The University of Akron used this event as a preview for the 2016 NCAA Championships that it hosts in March.
With 10 of the country's top-20 programs competing, the No. 8 nationally-ranked Tigers finished seventh with an aggregate score of 4642 (2296-2346). Kentucky won the NCAA Championships Rehearsal with an aggregate score of 4703, followed by three-time defending NCAA champion West Virginia in second (4697) and Murray State third (4692).
Lee placed ninth in the air rifle discipline with a 592 score, just one point off tying her career high. The senior also was Memphis' top finisher in smallbore, placing 21st with a score of 578.
For the fifth time in six matches, Lee led the Tigers in aggregate score. This weekend, she recorded a team-best 1170 aggregate score at the NCAA Championships Rehearsal. So far this season, Lee has posted an 1170 or higher aggregate score three times and has a team-leading aggregate score average of 1169.3.
Freshman Leighton Dempster posted solid performances in this weekend's match. She posted personal bests in smallbore (578) and aggregate score (1166). Her previous highs were 570 in smallbore and 1158 in aggregate score, both coming in the Tigers' win over Army Oct. 18.
At the NCAA Championships Rehearsal, Dempster placed 22nd in smallbore and 28th in air rifle.
Junior Amy Fister was the team's third-highest finisher in smallbore (31st), and sophomore Haylea Broughton posted the squad's third-best performance in air rifle (36th).
