Montiel Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Junior tight end to appear on Academic All-America ballot.
MEMPHIS – Junior tight end Daniel Montiel was voted to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team and will now appear on the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot it was announced, Thursday. Montiel, a two-year letterwinner at Memphis, has played in all eight games this season, starting at tight end in the Tigers' last game, a 41-13 win over Tulane.
On the season, Montiel, a native of Arlington, Texas, has six catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns and has played in 27 career games. An accounting major with a 3.72 GPA, Montiel has twice been a member of the American Athletic Conference All-Academic team and has been a member of the Tiger 3.0 club in every semester at Memphis. A multiple-semester honoree on the Dean's List, Montiel was also an honoree of the Tiger Academic 30 award in multiple semesters.
This is the second straight season Memphis football has had a CoSIDA first team Academic All-District III honoree. Former Tiger Charles Harris was also a first team honoree last season.
Memphis has two home games remaining on its schedule, starting with Saturday's Homecoming game against Navy. The 6 p.m. (CT) game will be carried live on ESPN2. Tickets for the game are still available for purchase through the University of Memphis website at www.GoTigersGoTix.com. Homecoming festivities kick off Friday with the Homecoming Parade on the University of Memphis campus at 5:30 p.m.
