Memphis Debuts in College Football Playoff Poll
Nov 03, 2015 | Football
Tigers ranked No. 13 in initial poll
The College Football Playoff Selection Committee announced on Tuesday the first installment of its top 25 rankings. Debuting at No. 13 is the University of Memphis.
Memphis is 8-0 and winners of its last 15 games dating back to the 2014 season. The Tigers' season includes a signature, 37-24 win over Ole Miss. The Rebels are ranked No. 18 in the season's first CFP Selection Committee Rankings.
The selection committee will prepare five more rankings this season, including the final set on Selection Day, Sunday, Dec. 6. The top four teams in the final rankings will play in the Playoff Semifinals on Dec. 31, 2015, at the Capital One Orange Bowl and the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic.
"It's exciting to be back as we kick off the second year of the College Football Playoff," said selection chairman Jeff Long. "We are little more than half way through the season and a lot of football that remains to be played. This is the first of six rankings. They are the result of games that have been played thus far. Change is guaranteed and that's what makes college football exciting."
This was the first official meeting for the selection committee to issue rankings.
Memphis plays host to Navy in a critical American Athletic Conference game Saturday evening at the Liberty Bowl. The Midshipmen are 6-1 and 4-0 in American play. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.
