Tigers Women's Basketball Falls At Little Rock Friday

Wright posts ninth career double-double.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – In a game of runs, Little Rock got the last one. The Trojans (2-2) closed Friday's contest with an 8-4 spurt to post a 61-53 win over Memphis (3-2) at Jack Stephens Center on the Little Rock campus.
Ariel Hearn led Memphis with 16 points and added six rebounds. Brianna Wright recorded her second-straight double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The double-double was the ninth of her career.
Little Rock's Shanity James led all scorers with 22 points. She also grabbed eight rebounds. Alexius Dawn and Sharde' Collins netted double figures for the Trojans with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Memphis was down 43-39 entering the final period, but Little Rock opened the quarter with an 8-0 run to extend its advantage to 12 points at 51-39 with 6:46 left.
The Tigers, though, had one more spurt left. Over the next 3:13, Memphis put together a 10-2 run to cut the Trojans' lead to 53-49 with 3:33 on the clock. Hearn and Cheyenne Creighton accounted for all the points in the run, as each scored five. Among Creighton's five points was her first three-pointer of the season.
But, that's where Little Rock had the final push for the win, outscoring Memphis 8-4 over the final 1:50. James hit a basket to halt the Tigers' run, and Collins then followed with a three-pointer to put the game out of reach at 58-49 with 1:10 left.
The game was tied 28-all at halftime, and Memphis had a 36-32 lead on a Wright layup with 4:12 left in the third quarter. Over the next 7:26, Little Rock went on a game-changing 19-3 spurt to take command of the contest with a 51-39 advantage. Dawn (six points) and Collins (five points) paced the Trojans' run.
The entire first half was close throughout with the largest lead six points by Little Rock. Memphis' largest advantage of the first half was five points.
Memphis shot 42.3 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the free throw line. Little Rock hit 43.6 percent from the field and 77.8 percent from the charity stripe.
The Tigers held a narrow 33-32 rebound edge. Memphis forced 16 Trojans turnovers, but had 19 of its own.
Memphis returns to action Sunday, Nov. 29 with a 2 p.m. (CT) contest against Southern Illinois at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
