Nov 13, 2015 | Men's Soccer
Junior midfielder Raul Gonzalez led the team with six goals
Junior midfielder Raul Gonzalez has been named to the American Athletic All-Conference first team, which was selected by the league's eight head coaches and announced by the conference Thursday. Freshman midfielder Mason Morise was also named to the league's All-Rookie team.
Â
Gonzalez was a dominant offensive threat for Memphis, scoring a team high seven goals. The Ocean Springs, Miss, native is also one of three Tiger players to have started all 17 matches and is second on the team with 1,574 minutes played.
Â
He scored his first goal of the season against UCF when the Tigers rallied from 2-0 down to tie the Knights 2-2. He followed that performance up by netting his first career hat trick in the win over Central Arkansas. Twice during the season, he had a goal and an assist in a match. He accomplished that against Georgia State and Cincinnati.
Â
Morise scored the Tigers first goal of the season, in the opener against UAB, and had a hand in the Tigers first three goals of the season. The freshman from New Orleans, La., assisted on both of the goals in the 2-2 draw with UCF to open league play. He was the provider again on the game-winning goal against UConn. Morise finished the season with a goal and three assists in his first season with Memphis.
Â
The Tigers finished the campaign with a 3-10-4 overall record and a 1-4-3 league mark.
