SS Alec Trela Inks with Memphis Baseball

Alec Trela, a shortstop from Normal Community High School in Normal, Ill., has signed his National Letter of Intent and will join the University of Memphis baseball squad, head coach Daron Schoenrock announced Friday.

"We are thrilled to add Alec to our Tiger Baseball family. He has tremendous offensive skills and power potential coming from a great student-athlete that possesses defensive skills necessary to defend at the shortstop position," Schoenrock said.

Trela batted .412 in 2014 and was named a unanimous selection to the Big Twelve Conference first team. The 6'4, 215 pound infielder also compiled a .512 on-base percentage and slugged .675. Earned athlete of the week honors for a three-hit game against Peoria Central where he hit a home run and drove in six runs. Trela is a school government member and a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Mathematics Honor Society.

Trela, born in Winston Salem, N.C., is the son of Brian and Beth Trela.
