Players honored after first two wins of the season

Jake Leeker was named as the American Athletic Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week, while Quincy Thomas earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after Memphis recorded an overtime shutout win over UConn on the road.

The Tigers claimed their first two victories of the season, beating Central Arkansas, 3-1, at home prior to the trip to Connecticut.

Leeker, who finished the week with six saves, made four crucial stops in the first half against the Huskies. He went on to post just the team's second shutout of the season.

Thomas started both matches and played every minute in the heart of the Memphis defense. He anchored a defensive unit that stifled a talented UConn team in front of 4,000 fans.

Memphis will next face SMU who sits tied at the top of the league standings with a 2-0 record. The Tigers are one of four undefeated teams in league play.
