Tigers Rifle Falls To Nebraska

Fister, Lee both finish in top-three in aggregate score.
FORT WORTH, Texas. – University of Memphis junior Amy Fister tied for the smallbore title, and senior Beth Lee was third in air rifle, but it wasn't enough as the No. 9 Tigers rifle squad fell to No. 8 Nebraska 4671-4654 on the TCU campus this past weekend. Results from the match became final Tuesday.
The two schools were tied at 2306 after the smallbore discipline. The Cornhuskers, though, pulled away in air rifle, recording four of the top-five individual scores. Nebraska won air rifle 2365-2348.
The veteran Fister-Lee tandem paced the Memphis effort against Nebraska. Fister and Lee posted the second- and third-highest aggregate scores in the match. Fister shot a 1167 (583 smallbore/584 air rifle), and Lee recorded a 1166 (574/592).
Fister tied Nebraska's Rachel Martin for first in smallbore with her 583 score. Lee was just one off tying her career-high air rifle mark of 593. Her weekend air rifle score of 592 was only two off the top performance of 594, which was shared by the Cornhuskers' Jaycee Carter and Martin.
Sophomore Makennon Doran also shot well against Nebraska. Doran's aggregate score of 1159 was fifth-highest in the match. He posted the Tigers' second-best outing in air rifle with a score of 587. Doran shot a 572 in smallbore.
Freshman Leighton Dempster was the squad's third-highest finisher in air rifle, firing a 585 in the discipline.
The Tigers return home this Saturday, Oct. 31 to host three-time defending NCAA champion and current No. 1 West Virginia. The match begins at 8 a.m. (CT) at the Global Training Academy.
