Memphis closes fall season at Quail Valley Collegiate
The Memphis men's golf team will close out the fall season against the strongest field it has faced this year when the Tigers take part in the 3rd Annual Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla., Monday and Tuesday.
Â
A total of 10 teams in the latest Golfstat Ranking's Top 100 are set to tackle the Quail Valley Golf Club course.
Â
Memphis is the highest-ranked team in the 15-team tournament at No. 36 in the latest Golfstat Rankings. The field also includes No. 37 North Carolina State and No. 44 North Florida. Michigan State (No. 62), Jacksonville (No. 70), McNeese State (No. 72), Connecticut (No. 78), Mississippi State (No. 87), North Texas (No. 88) and South Dakota State (No. 92) round out Golfstat Ranking Top 100 teams competing at this week's tournament.
Â
"Quail Valley will be the best field we have seen all fall which provides an excellent opportunity to gauge yourself nationally and personally," Memphis golf coach Blake Smart said. "With good play comes higher expectations and the responsibility to continue sticking with the process and doing all the little things right."
Â
This will be the third tournament in as many weeks for the Tigers who have had individuals claim championships the past two weeks. Thomas Perrot won the WKU Kenny Perry Inventional two weeks ago while Lars van Meijel won the Pinetree Intercollegiate last week.
Â
As a team, Memphis has won two tournament titles – the Memphis Intercollegiate and the Pinetree Intercollegiate. The Tigers were runners-up at the only other meeting they have competed in this fall.
Â
"The end of the fall has gotten here rather quickly," said Memphis coach Blake Smart. "That being said, three tournments in a row is always a challenge for our players and this venue will provide a challenge."
Â
In addition to Perrot and van Meijel, rounding out the Tigers' five-player field for Quail Valey is Eithel McGowen, Sydney Chung and JC Campbell.
