Women’s Tennis Kicking Off ITA Regional Slate Thursday

Three Lady Tigers start in qualifying singles Thursday.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's tennis team will open the ITA Ohio Valley Regional at Purdue University on Thursday morning.
The morning will begin with two rounds of qualifying doubles, starting at 8 a.m, Thursday. The first round of qualifying singles will begin at 9 a.m. and championships singles will start at 1 p.m. On Friday, there again be two rounds of doubles and one round of singles play. The doubles quarterfinals will be played on Saturday in both a championship and consolation draw.
The first Lady Tigers on the court will be freshman Janina Berres and junior Gabrielle Paul. That duo will face the Eastern Kentucky team of Margaux Lacroix and Marina Marti at 8 a.m. in the top half of the Round of 16 in the qualifying draw. The winners of that meeting will advance to a 9 a.m. match against the winner of the Marta Burgos/Claudia Escribens (Purdue) vs. Toni Ormond/Julia Sbircea (Ball State) match.
After a potential of two rounds of doubles, both Berres and Paul then will then step back on the court at 10 a.m. for a singles match. Berres will square off against No. 3 seeded Tiffany Tavzares of Tennessee while Paul plays her first singles match as a Lady Tiger against top-seeded Marina Guinart of East Tennessee State.
Later in the day, teammate Hanna Sohn will play her opening singles match at 11:15 a.m. against Evansville's Marine Darzyan as the three Memphis players will be trying to win their way in to the main draw.
