ITA All-American Prequalifying
Two Tigers Advance to Sunday ITA Prequalifying Play

Freshmen men’s tennis players Andrew Watson and Ryan Peniston both picked up two wins on the first day of the ITA All-American Prequalifying Draw, Saturday, at the University of Tulsa.
Peniston opened the morning with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 win over Iowa’s Leferis Theodorou and followed that with a 6-3, 6-0 win over the bracket’s No. 19 seed, Doya Zyhmantovich of Middle Tennessee to advance to a Sunday morning third round match. He will face Georgia Tech’s Eduardo Seguara at 9:30, Sunday morning.
Watson opened his morning with another comeback win, bouncing back from a 6-4 first set loss to win the second in a 7-6 tiebreak. He closed out his fourth career singles win with a 6-4 third set win to advance. Watson then advanced to the Sunday third round with a win over North Florida’s Zachary Goldberg, 6-0, 6-1. Watson will face No. 17 seeded Jonathan Ho of Wake Forest at 10:30 a.m., Sunday.
Two other Tigers advanced to the second round before suffering losses. Louis Asser won his opening match against host Tulsa’s Daniel Santos, 7-5, 6-4, but fell to the draw’s No. 27 seed from Northwestern, Strong Kirchheimer.
Patrick Mayer battled back from a first set tiebreak loss, 7-6 to win his second and third sets, 6-2, 6-1 over Nebraska’s Marc Herrman. But Mayer got stuck in another tiebreak to start his second match of the day, falling 7-6 (8), then falling 6-4 to have his ITA All-American run come to an end.
