MEMPHIS, Tenn.- A late goal by Jordan Klipsch in the 84th minute propelled the University of Memphis men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the Temple Owls as they closed out regular season play and honored five seniors on Senior Night, Saturday night at Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
With the win, the Tigers finished fifth in conference play with an overall record of 9-6-2, 3-4-1 AAC. The Owls fell to 2-13-2 overall, 1-6-1 in league action.
The first half of play was stagnant with both teams remaining scoreless going into intermission. However, the defense led by Quincy Thomas maintained a solid back line as Thomas staved off a breakaway that might have put the Owls ahead.
The Blue and Gray came out attacking the second half as they had four shots in the first ten minutes, two of them being shots on goal.
Temple's best scoring opportunity came in the 72nd minute as a free kick just outside of box just grazed the cross bar.
UofM keeper Cody Uzcategui notched his eighth shut out of the season and recorded two saves on the match.
After the game, five senior Tigers: Chandler Gagnon, Wil Linder, Fakhry Khulfan, Tyler Rist and Benjamin Ciosanski, were honored for their years of athletic excellence and presented with a framed jersey.
The Tigers will now prepare for the American Athletic Conference tournament set to start November 8.
