Tigers Fall to Bearcats
Oct 22, 2014 | Men's Soccer
MEMPHIS, Tenn.- The University of Memphis men's soccer team created several scoring opportunities, but fell short to Cincinnati, 2-1 in an American Athletic Conference at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex Wednesday.
Tigers came out as the aggressors. In the fifth minute, Benjamin Ciosanski crossed the ball to Raul Gonzalez who then passed it to Kenneth Kauker who fired it into the upper corner of the net for the Tigers first goal. The goal was Kauker's first of the season.
Less than five minutes later, the Bearcats responded with a goal of their own. John Manga received the ball from Ben Keane and dribbled the ball across the top of the left side of box and shot the ball into the lower right side of the net.
Coming out of intermission, the Tigers and Bearcats were tied 1-1. However, Cincinnati took the lead in the 69th minute when Ashani Walker played the ball to Stefan Bangsund who shot the ball from the right side and put it high to the near post side of the goalkeeper.
The Blue and Gray's quality chance to tie the game came in the 88th minute when Gonzalez' attempt to score fell short when he put the shot on frame but the Cincinnati keeper punched it out of the net.
In the last ten minutes of the game, the UofM and Cincinnati both received red cards and therefore finished out the remainder of the game 10 on 10.
Memphis keeper Cody Uzcategui recorded four saves on the match.
Memphis closes out play this weekend Saturday, Oct. 25, when it travels to Tampa, Fla., for an American Athletic Conference match against USF. Match time is 6:30 p.m. (CT).
