JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - After losing the doubles point, the University of North Floirda scraped back in individual competition to pick up the four necessary points to clinch the dual match 4-3 over Memphis on Monday. With the win, UNF improves to 16-6 overall, while the U of M falls to 14-9 with the non-conference loss.
Similar to Sunday's match against MTSU, the Tigers were up 1-0 with doubles wins from No. 2 tandem Joe Salisbury and David O'Hare over Daniel Sotomarino and Hleb Maslau 8-4 and No. 3 duo Leon Nasemann and John Taylor, who topped Pedro Davisson and Leonardo Nahar 9-8 (9-3).
However, unlike the previous outing, the Blue and Gray would come up short in singles action, dropping four of the six matches and the decision to the Ospreys.
Freshman Johnny Grimal and Cedric de Zutter tallied the two points in singles play for Memphis at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions respectively, and with his 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Pedro Davisson, Grimal now leads the squad with 14 singles wins this season.
Memphis returns to the Bluff City for its final match of the 2011 regular season against UAB on Saturday, April 16. The conference match is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. CT at The Raccquet Club of Memphis and senior netters Jordan Smith and John Taylor will be honored following the contest. Admission, as always, is free.
