• The Tigers earn C-USA's automatic bid for the fifth time in the past six seasons. Five C-USA titles is the record for most tournament titles won since the conference began operation in 1995.
• Head Coach Josh Pastner won his 49th game, overtaking predecessor John Calipari for most victories in his first two seasons as Memphis coach.
• Memphis didn't lead until Joe Jackson's game-winning free throw with seven seconds left.
• Freshman Tarik Black had his second double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) in his last four games, and second of the season.
• Freshman Joe Jackson led the Tigers with 17 points and seven assists; for the tournament, Jackson led the Tigers by averaging 19 points in three games. It was the first time since Jan. 22 at UAB Jackson had seven or more assists.
• Memphis expanded its school-record in single-digit victories to 16.
• Freshman Chris Crawford scored in double figures for the first time since Jan. 26 against UAB, finishing with 15 points. He also hit a career-high-tying five three-pointers and grabbed his 100th career rebound.
• Memphis hit 18-for-36 (50 percent) on three-pointers in the last two games of the C-USA tournament, their best two-game showing from three of the season.
• Memphis outscored the Miners 16-6 on second chance points after getting outscored 12-7 in the two teams prior meeting.
• Freshman Will Barton, in addition being the fourth Tiger in double figures with 11 points, played his 1000th minute for the Tigers.
• This was Memphis' first meeting with UTEP in the conference tournament; Memphis moves to 9-3 all-time against the Miners.
• This is the first time Memphis has played a conference championship game decided by single digits since losing to Louisville, 75-74, in the 2004-05 tournament. In their previous four championship wins, the average margin of victory was 18.3 points.
