Memphis Postgame Notes
* The victory moves the Tigers to 9-0 all-time against East Carolina, including 5-0 at home.
* Memphis won its 10th consecutive conference home opener, and seventh straight opening C-USA game overall.
* East Carolina jumped out to an early 10-3 lead, but a Memphis 17-3 run from 16:45 to 7:07 in the first half turned a seven point deficit into a seven-point lead, 20-13.
* This game marked the first time in the history between these two squads that the Tigers achieved victory by a margin of fewer than six points.
* The Tigers move to 9-0 when leading at the half; Memphis' last loss after leading in the first half came against SMU, Jan. 30, 2010. The Tigers led, 30-25, after 20 minutes before losing, 70-60.
* Senior Will Coleman scored in double figures for the fifth time this season, finishing with 11 points.
* Freshman Tarik Black broke into double-digits scoring for the fourth time in his freshman season, finishing with 12 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
* Memphis had its first negative assist to turnover ratio of the season against East Carolina. Despite coming into the contest leading C-USA in assists at 17.0 per contest, the Tigers managed just nine assists to go along with 20 turnovers.
* Defending a legacy: East Carolina's Brock Young entered today's contest just eight assists behind Memphis alum Antonio Anderson for (2006-09) for fifth all-time in Conference USA history. He was held to just two assists by a stifling Tiger defense that also forced him into eight turnovers. Young had 10 points off the bench, the only bench production that East Carolina got and marking the lowest bench production by a Memphis opponent this season.
* East Carolina showed why it entered today's game as the defense with the best three-point shooting percentage allowed in the conference (27.0 percent); the Pirates held Memphis to a season-worst 15.4 percent, making a season-low 2 out of 13, from beyond the arc.
* The Tigers were held to a season-low 61 points, the fewest scored in a victory since Memphis defeated Southern Miss, 59-57, to open Conference USA play last season.
* Freshman Will Barton's streak of four contests in a row with double-digit scoring came to an end; Barton finished the game against East Carolina with six points.
* Freshman Antonio Barton ran his streak of consecutive games with a made three-point basket to six.
* The Tigers are now 8-0 when controlling the opening tip.
* East Carolina had a woeful first half, shooting just 5-for-17, both lows by an opponent in one half against the Tigers this season.
