Memphis Postgame Notes
* This game marked the first meeting between the Tigers and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Tigers are now 24-2 against first-time opponents since 2000-01.
* With the victory, Memphis is now the third school to earn 300 wins since 2000-01, following Duke and Kansas.
* This victory runs the Tigers record to 9-1, tying this squad with the 2005-06 team for second-best start to a season. The lone better start was by the 2007-08 team, which started the season 10-0 on its way to a 38-2 mark and an appearance in the NCAA Championship.
* Old Face, New Place: Memphis runs its record against Texas A&M-CC head coach Perry Clark to 11-6; the Tigers went 10-5 against Clark when he was the head coach at Tulane from 1989-2000, and 0-1 when he was at Miami (Fla.) from 2001-04.
* Freshman Chris Crawford had a career-high tying three steals, marking the ninth time in 10 games a Tiger has had three or more steals. He also made a three-pointer for the fifth game in a row, tied with Charles Carmouche for longest active streak among the Tigers.
* Carmouche added 12 points for the Tigers, his third game in a row in double-figures.
* Freshman Joe Jackson had a career-high 23 points, his first double-figure scoring game since he put up 15 points against Western Kentucky, Dec. 4, and the first 20-point scoring performance of his career; among those was his 100th point in a Memphis uniform. Jackson also had a career-high two blocks.
* The Tigers committed just five first-half fouls, the fewest Memphis has committed in a half this season. On the night, the Tigers committed a season-low 15 fouls.
* Senior Will Coleman finished with 15 points, his first double-digit scoring effort since he put up 20 points against UT Martin, Nov. 23. He also had a season-high tying four blocks, his second contest in a row with four swats, and a season-high nine rebounds, in a career-high tying 32 minutes of action.
* Islander senior Demond Watt, who entered play averaging a double-double (16.6 ppg, 10.1 rpg), was held to 10 points and eight rebounds against the Tigers.
* The Tigers were held to just 12 bench points, their lowest total of the season, led by Antonio Barton with six; the Tiger bench entered the contest contributing 35.6 points per game.
* A Tiger team notorious for its ball-hawking ways (entered play averaging 11.4 steals per contest) managed just one takeaway in the second half.
* The Tigers controlled the boards in the second half, allowing just a season-low tying 12 total rebounds to the Islanders in the second period, including just three offensive rebounds.
* Memphis won the battle of the boards for just the fourth time this season, 40-34, against an Islander squad that entered the game outrebounding opponents by an average of 3.2 boards per game.
