Alabama A&M Takes Down Memphis, 3-1

The Alabama A&M Bulldogs used three goals to upend the Memphis Tigers on Wednesday night at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex in Memphis. Abraham Kassaye put in two second-half goals to lead the Bulldogs past the Tigers. Memphis falls to 6-6-2 on the season. Alabama A&M improves to 4-9-1 on the year.
Memphis' first shot on goal came in the 18th minute when Jon Wright put a shot on frame. The ball was save by Alabama A&M's Paul Musoke.
The Bulldogs first goal came in the 31st minute when Cesar Ramirez took an Eric Kamya assist and put it in the net past Memphis goalkeeper Michael Goodlett.
The Tigers second opportunity to score came when Thomas Shannon's free kick was rocketed to the keeper. Musoke recorded his second save on the attempt.
Alabama A&M went into the dressing room at half with a 1-0 lead. The Tigers had six shots in the first period to the Bulldogs' three shots.
Musoke, the Alabama A&M goalkeeper had two saves in the first period. Goodlett had one save for Memphis.
Memphis' first shot on goal opportunity of the second half came in the 51st minute when J.J. Greer had a header opportunity. Musoke recorded his third save on the attempt.
Alabama A&M went ahead 2-0 in the game when Kassaye took a Moses Semakula pass behind the defense and struck it past Goodlett.
Ryan Ruble had a scoring opportunity in the 67th minute but the ball was again saved by Musoke.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard later in the 67th minute when Parker Duncan was fouled by an Alabama A&M player. The foul in the penalty area resulted in Thomas Shannon's second penalty kick attempt in the last two games. Shannon hit the attempt for his second goal of the season. The sophomore from Broken Arrow, Okla., is now two-for-two on penalty kicks this season.
The Tigers had another scoring opportunity in the 69th minute when Ruble took a pass behind the defense but placed the shot over the goal.
The Bulldogs went ahead 3-1 in the 73rd minute when Kassaye placed a shot from the left side of the penalty area and put it into the right corner of the goal.
Memphis ended the game with three shots on goal in the last 15 minutes but was unable to connect.
Goodlett, the Tiger netminder, falls to 6-6-2 on the season. The native of Bolton, Miss., allowed three goals and had one save in the game.
Musoke picks up the win in the game. The Alabama A&M keeper improves to 4-9-1 on the season.
The Tigers will next hit the pitch in a Conference USA tilt against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Sun., Nov. 1. The game will be aired on tape delay on CBS College Sports on Tues., Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. (CST).
