BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The men's soccer team lost a heartbreaking double overtime match to Conference USA foe UAB this afternoon, 1-0. While the Tigers have secured a place in the C-USA tournament, to be hosted by UAB, the Blazers took a large step toward doing the same today.
UAB (7-9-1, 2-5-0 C-USA) managed just three shots on goal during the match but knocked one off the post and another off the crossbar. In the second overtime period, freshman Anthony King slipped a left-footed shot past Tyler Strom for the game-winner.
Memphis is now 9-4-4 (2-2-3 C-USA) and will conclude the regular season next Saturday when the Tigers host FIU at Mike Rose Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
