SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - In its final match before starting conference play, the Lady Tiger soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime draw against Missouri State on Friday.
Memphis (4-4-1) totaled 16 shots in the match to 13 for Missouri State. Despite not getting the win, Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan felt his team's performance was a positive sign.
"I was pleased with the way we played tonight," Monaghan said. "I felt like we were playing overly direct in our last few matches, and we worked on being patient this week in practice. We created a lot of chances tonight and that is what we were looking for."
Lady Tiger goalkeeper Isabel Briones had a big game, notching seven saves to keep the match scoreless. Kylie Hayes and Nicky McLeod led the Lady Tigers offensively with each taking four shots and putting one on goal.
The tie snapped a six game winning streak for Missouri State (7-2-1).
"Missouri State is a good team and their record shows it," said Monaghan. "I really like where we are heading into the conference season."
The Lady Tigers will open the Conference USA portion of their schedule Friday Sept. 29 when they host East Carolina at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
"We've been really up and down so far, but now we're to the conference season," said Monaghan. "The players know that they have to step up their play if we're going to be successful from here on."
