Tigers Defeat Christian Brothers 98-53 In Exhibition Play Monday

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Senior Rodney Carney led five Memphis players in double figures with a game-high 26 points to lift the No. 12 nationally-ranked Tigers to a 98-53 exhibition game win over Christian Brothers Monday night. The game was the final exhibition tune-up before Memphis opens regular-season play Nov. 15 versus Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the NIT Season Tip-Off.
Carney scored his 26 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field, 2-of-2 from the arc and 2-of-3 from the free throw line. Shawne Williams (16 points), Darius Washington Jr. (14), Antonio Anderson (10) and Kareem Cooper (10) also netted double figures for Memphis. Cooper led the Tigers with nine boards, while Joey Dorsey grabbed eight rebounds. Anderson added seven assists and five steals.
Christian Brothers stayed close in the game's first nine minutes, trailing only 22-17 with 11:13 to go. The Tigers, however, went on an 18-0 run over the next nine minutes to grab a 40-17 advantage and put the contest out of reach. Carney ignited the run as he scored seven of his 26 points in the spurt. The Tiger defense also spurred the rally, forcing seven Buccaneer turnovers in the run. Memphis led 48-21 at the break.
In the second half, Memphis continued to build on its lead. The Tigers' largest lead came late in the second half at 98-49.
Memphis shot 46.1 percent from the floor, while Christian Brothers hit 43.5 percent from the field. The Tiger defense had 27 steals and forced 37 Buccaneer turnovers. Memphis won the battle on the glass 51-32.
The Tigers return to action Nov. 15 when they host Wisconsin-Milwaukee at FedExForum. Game time is 7:00 p.m. (CT).
