PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Antonio Burks had 22 points and seven rebounds, both season highs, to lift Memphis to a 73-57 win over Villanova on Tuesday.
Sean Banks also had 22 points, while Duane Erwin added nine points and 12 rebounds for the Tigers (9-2).
Banks and Burks led Memphis on a 16-1 run at the start of the second half that snapped a 29-all tie. Banks had eight points in the paint, while Burks scored six during the run. Erwin was the only other Tiger to score in the first 7:32 of the half.
Derrick Snowden hit consecutive 3-pointers during a late 12-2 run for Villanova (8-4), but the Wildcats would get no closer than six down the stretch.
Villanova was pressured the entire game by the Tigers' defense and shot 31 percent, their worst effort of the season. Curtis Sumpter, the Wildcats leading scorer, finished with four points, the first time this season he failed to score in double figures.
Mike Nardi had 12 points and Snowden had 10 to lead the Wildcats, who lost their second straight after winning five in a row.
Tigers' forward Rodney Carney, second on the team in scoring, missed his first game after suffering a fracture above his eye in the Dec. 27 upset of Missouri.
The Wildcats had 10 turnovers in each half and were held scoreless for the opening 4:21, but then went on a 13-3 run to take an early 3-point lead. Memphis got 15 points off the turnovers to take a short-lived lead before Villanova tied the game at halftime.
