LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville's Mandy Rost scored the game's lone goal in the 73rd minute to power the Cardinals past Memphis, 1-0, in the Tigers Conference-USA road opener Friday evening at Cardinal Park. The Tigers fall to 4-3-1 (1-2-0 C-USA) on the season, while Louisville improves to 3-4-1 (1-1-1 C-USA).
After an evenly played match throughout, Rost broke a scoreless tie played a deflected shot past Tiger keeper Katarina Wicksell.
"We got some positives out of tonight's game," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "We possessed the ball well, but were a bit hesitant and they capitalized on our mistakes. We'll bounce back"
Memphis outshot the Cardinals 11-10 in the match, but Louisville goalie was able to hold the Tigers scoreless with six saves in the shutout. Wicksell made five saves in the losing effort.
The Tigers return to action on Sunday, when they take on Charlotte in league play. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
