Volleyball Falls 3-0 at Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Kent. - The University of Memphis volleyball team (17-12, 2-7 C-USA) hit just .119 and was aced seven times in a 3-0 loss at Louisville (19-4, 8-1 C-USA), Saturday. Louisville won by game scores of 30-16, 30-25 and 30-27.
Memphis struggled in game one, hitting -.121 on 33 attacks while Louisville spread out their offense and hit .320 in the opening game. The Cardinals would follow that hitting performance with games of .261 and .255 to bounce back from their first C-USA loss that they suffered to Saint Louis, Friday night.
Sophomore Tiara Gilkey (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonsville) led the Tigers with 11 kills, while junior middle Shella Neba (Aurora, Colo./St. Mary's) was the only other Tiger to get double-digit kills with 10. Freshman Lauren Berg (Indianapolis, Ind./Cathedral) led the defense with 17 digs, while Heather Watts (Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline) paced the offense with 39 assists.
Bing Sun led Louisville with 13 kills, while Benny Flynn and Stacey Mercer each downed 11 kills. Anastasia Zaitseva added 10 kills in the Cardinals' eighth league win of the season.
Memphis will return to the friendly confines of the Elma Roane Fieldhouse to host Charlotte (14-12, 5-4 C-USA), Friday, at 7 p.m. The Tigers will honor the team's lone senior, Brooke Chrisman (Katy, Texas/Katy) in senior night festivities, Saturday, when the Tigers host East Carolina (6-21, 0-9 C-USA).
