Memphis Holds Off South Florida, 100-89

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Kelly Wise had 24 points as Memphis beat South Florida 100-89 in a showdown for first place in Conference USA's National Division on Wednesday night.
Memphis (13-9, 7-2) finished with six players scoring in double figures, including 18 points from Scooter McFadgon. The Tigers have won eight straight conference road games.
Altron Jackson had 32 points for South Florida (14-8, 6-3), which had won nine consecutive home games. The last home defeat came against Memphis last March.
South Florida was without second-leading scorer B.B Waldon for the third straight game. Waldon was suspended indefinitely by coach Seth Greenberg on Jan. 30 for unacceptable behavior.
After trailing by 13 points late in the first half, South Florida got within 45-42 early in the second half. Wise had eight points over the next four minutes as Memphis built a 58-45 lead with 14 minutes left.
Jackson had 10 points during an ensuing South Florida run, helping the Bulls get within 61-59 with 11 minutes remaining. Memphis responded by scoring the next six points, including a 3-point play by McFadgon.
Memphis preserved the win by converting 11 of 12 free throw attempts over the final two minutes.
For the game, Memphis was 36 of 46 from the stripe. South Florida was just 21-for-42.
Shannon Forman had 14 points as Memphis lead 43-36 at intermission.
