MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Kelly Wise scored 14 points and No. 12 Memphis overcame a sloppy performance to beat Southeastern Louisiana 65-46 on Saturday night.
Wise, who normally starts, came off the bench to shoot 6-of-7 from the field for the Tigers (4-2). Memphis coach John Calipari said the decision to not start Wise and Scooter McFadgon, who finished with 12 points, was because of off-court problems and previous game performance. Calipari declined to elaborate.
Freshman Dajuan Wagner, who entered averaging 24.6 points a game for the Tigers, was held to 11 and took only six shots.
Harold Juluke had 15 for Southeastern Louisiana (1-1), shooting 3-of-4 from the field and 9-of-13 from the line.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Tigers, who lost both games in the finals of the Guardians Classic last week.
The Lions never really threatened, and shot just 26 percent from the field.
Memphis led 33-18 at halftime after holding the Lions to 27 percent shooting and forcing 13 turnovers.
Memphis maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second half, holding a pair of 20-point leads.
