Tiger Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match to USF

MEMPHIS, TENN. - The University of Memphis Tiger volleyball team dropped to 18-8 overall, 5-8 in Conference USA, with a 3-0 loss to South Florida here Friday evening. The Bulls, ranked third in the league, improve to 17-7 on the year and 10-3 in the conference.
USF's Michelle Collier led USF both offensively and defensively with 16 kills and 17 digs. She also totaled four service aces, three assisted blocks and a .333 hitting mark. Jolene Patton also recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 13 digs. She hit .478 for the match and also totaled three service aces. South Florida hit .325 as a team, including 50 kills and just 13 errors in 114 total attempts.
The Tigers hit a mere .059 for the match with 27 kills and 20 errors in 118 attempts. Senior Ginger Garrett led Memphis in hitting with eight kills, marking the first match this season that a Tiger hitter did not record double-digit kills. Senior Emily Eichmann led Memphis in digs with nine, while Amie Hamilton led with two aces and 20 assists.
The Tigers, looking to snap their five-match league losing streak, will host UAB Saturday night in the final home match of the season. The match is slated to begin at approximately 7:15 p.m., following the Senior Day ceremony which will honor Amie Hamilton, Ginger Garrett, Emily Eichmann, Adrianne Edmonds and manager Barry Bridger.
Memphis will close out its league season on the road at East Carolina and Charlotte next weekend. They will also end the season with a non-league match-up with High Point University onSunday. The C-USA Tournament, which will feature 12 of the league's 14 teams, will be hosted by Houston, Nov. 15-18.
