Tiger Volleyball Halts UT-Martin Win Streak

MARTIN, TENN. - The University of Memphis volleyball team improved to 18-7 on the year and snapped a 12-match winning streak for UT-Martin, with a 3-0 win over the Skyhawks here Tuesday evening.
The loss was the first for UT-Martin since Sept. 28 as Memphis posted game victories of 30-12, 30-17 and 30-23. The Skyhawks were playing short-handed and without the services of three starters, having only seven players in uniform for the match.
Memphis recorded a team hitting percentage of .342 for the match, led by Brittany Barnett's 11 kills. Emily Eichmannhad nine kills out of 19 attacks for a hitting mark of .421. The Skyhawks totaled a team hiting clip of .063. Rachel Ahlers had 10 kills out of 15 attacks for a match percentage of .533.
Adrianne Edmonds led the Memphis defense with 12 digs, followed by Amie Hamilton and Ginger Garrett who both posted 11 digs apiece. Eichmann also totaled double digit digs with 10. Sophomore Shella Neba led Memphis in blocking with one solo and four assisted blocks.
"This was a good win for us," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "The big test is going to be this weekend in conference action as we are nearing the end of our schedule. We would really like the fans to come out and support our team and to honor our seniors on Saturday. All four of our seniors have made major contributions to the success of this program this season, and they really deserve a classy and enthusiastic ending to their careers in the Fieldhouse."
The Tigers will close out their home conference schedule this weekend when they host South Florida on Friday and UAB on Saturday. Both matches are slated to begin at 7 p.m. at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse on campus. Seniors Amie Hamilton, Ginger Garrett, Emily Eichmann and Adrianne Edmonds, as well as manager Barry Bridger, will be honored prior to the UAB match on Saturday.
