MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Marcus Moody's 25 points Wednesday night led five other players in double figures as Memphis went on to beat Howard 112-42.
Moody connected on 8-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. He passed the 1,000-point mark in career scoring late in the game, the 34th Tiger player to pass the mark.
Shyrone Chatman and Scooter McFadgon added 19 points each for the Tigers (6-8), Kelly Wise scored 18, and Shannon Forman and Earl Barron finished with 10 each. Chatman also had 7 assists, and Wise grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
Ali Abdullah led Howard (2-9) with 12 points.
The 70-point differnce was the second-highest margin of victory in Memphis history. The Tigers led by 73 until a late 3-pointer by Howard's Hekima Jackson.
Memphis scored the first 12 points of the game and led 50-23 at the half behind Wise's 14 points and 7 rebounds. The Tigers would lead by as many 32 on two occasions in the first half.
Memphis continued to add to the lead in the second half, outscoring the Bison 24-2 in the opening 7 1/2 minutes for a 74-25 lead when Wise tipped in a rebound.
From there, the only questions were when the Tigers would break the 100-point mark for the first time since 1994, and whether Moody, who entered the game needing 24 points to reach 1,000, would surpass the mark.
The Tigers accomplished both. Moody hit a jumper with 2:35 left for a 101-34 lead, and he passed the 1,000-point mark with the first of two free throws with about 30 seconds remaining.
Howard never threatened in the game, primarily because of poor shooting. The Bison hit only 25.8 percent from the field, including 21.6 percent in the second half and 19 total points.
Memphis, meanwhile, shot 58.6 percent for the game, including 62.9 percent after halftime. The Tigers also benefitted from a 15-of-27 shooting performance from 3-point range. The 15 3-pointers set a school record, breaking the mark of 13 against Florida Atlantic in 1993.
