BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Myron Ransom scored 20 points Wednesday to lead UAB to a 102-75 win over Memphis, the Tigers' fifth straight loss.
UAB (13-10, 6-6 Conference USA) snapped its three-game losing streak and moved within a half game of National Division leader South Florida. Memphis (9-15, 2-9) lost for the eighth time in its last 10 games.
UAB put six players in double figures and reached the 100-point mark for only the third time this season. Eric Holmes had 18 points, LeAndrew Bass scored 16, Igor Nikolic and Morris Finley each scored 14 and David Walker had 10.
Shannon Forman led Memphis with 14 points. Kelly Wise scored 13, Earl Barron had 12 and Marcus Moody scored 11.
UAB shot 54 percent in the first half to take a 43-27 into the break. The Blazers had 12 assists on 17 field goals and forced 11 Memphis turnovers while building their lead.
UAB pushed its lead to 48-29 in the second half when Bass converted his own steal into a layup at the 18:01 mark.
Memphis (9-15, 2-9) slowly chipped away from there, cutting the score to 57-45 with 12:42 to play. The Tigers then had chance to close within 10 for the first time since midway through the first half when Forman went to the line with 12:22 to play. But Forman missed the front end of the one-and-one and Memphis never got any closer.
UAB then blew the game open with a 14-4 run. Ransom scored eight points in the run, and the Blazers had a 91-64 lead, their largest of the game, with 3:43 to play.
