Kelly Wise scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as the University of Memphis defeated the Universal All-Stars 77-61 in the Tigers' first exhibition game of the season.
Memphis led 37-28 at the half but the Universal All-Stars whittled the Tigers' lead down to two points, 51-49 with 11:17 to play, when Tracy Gross drilled a three-pointer. After that, Memphis went on a 10-0 run starting with a stick back bucket by Earl Barron. The sophomore would add two free throws during the run. Barron finished with 10 points.
The Universal All-Stars were led by Gross's 14-point effort while former U of M player Jermaine Ousley added 12 points, making two-of-five from three-point range.
Also scoring in double figures for the Tigers was Scooter McFadgon who finished with 17 points while Grice had 12.
Memphis plays host to Team Georgia in the Tigers' second and final exhibition game Wednesday.
