MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Lynn Greer scored 22 points, including seven in the final 73 seconds, to lead Temple to a 67-62 victory over Memphis and spoil John Calipari's debut as the Tigers head coach.
Calipari, formerly of Massachusetts and the NBA's New Jersey Nets, took over at Memphis (0-1) in March.
The Owls (3-0) overcame a 9-point halftime deficit to take the lead at the start of the second half, keying a 14-2 run by overplaying the passing lanes.
The two teams traded leads through the middle part of the second half. Memphis took a 56-55 lead with 3:36 left on a 3-pointer by Shyrone Chatman.
But Quincy Wadley hit a 3-pointer and then scored on a drive to put Temple ahead 60-56, and the Owls never trailed again. Greer's scoring down the stretch kept Memphis from closing the gap to less than three.
Wadley scored the first seven points of the half, David Hawkins added four and Alex Wesby hit a 3-pointer with 14:16 left to give Temple a 38-35 lead.
Wadley scored 15 for Temple, and Hawkins added 11.
Marcus Moody led Memphis with 16 points, including 13 in the second half. For the night, Moody hit 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Earl Barron finished with 12 for Memphis.
The Tigers scored the final seven points of the first half to take a 33-24 halftime lead.
Memphis connected on 44.8 percent of its shots, and held Temple to only 38.5 percent in the first half. Temple turned it around in the second half, hitting 58 percent from the floor while holding Memphis to 28 percent.
