Blue Demons Defeat Lady Tigers, 68-64

CHICAGO, ILL. - The Lady Tiger Basketball team dropped a 68-64 decision to the DePaul Blue Demons to drop their record to 9-8 overall, 3-3 in C-USA.
The game was sloppy on both sides as it took until the 11:25 mark in the first half before the Lady Tigers would hit their first field goal. DePaul led 15-2 before Malissa Bush hit a jumper at 11:25 to push the score to 15-4. Memphis went on a 10-0 run later in the first half to close the gap to three points, 19-16, with 3:52 left until the break.
The Lady Tigers went into the lockerroom down by eight, 28-20, after shooting 33.3 percent (7-of-21) from the field. DePaul, which had shot well in the early part of the half, shot 32.4 percent (11-of-34) once their near-seven minute scoring drought was factored in.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers led by as many as six points on several occasions, but just could not hold onto the lead. Memphis led, 57-51, with 6:19 left to play, but DePaul used a 14-6 scoring run in five minutes to gain the lead, 65-63, with 1:37 left in the game. DePaul hit three of their next four foul shots and Memphis? Yolanda Reed missed one of her two charity shots to give the Blue Demons the game, 68-64.
The Lady Tigers hit 20-of-22 free throw shots in the second half, while DePaul was 11-of-15 in that half. Memphis shot 37.5 percent from the field and outrebounded the Blue Demons, 44-27, while DePaul shot 40 percent from the field.
Malissa Bush led Memphis in scoring with 12 points, while Melissa Abraham led the squad in rebounding with 15 boards. Also in double digits for Memphis was Yolanda Reed and Tiffany Collins who both added 11 points apiece.
The Lady Tigers return to Memphis to face Marquette at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse.
