Tigers Drop To Kansas State, 62-61

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Tony Kitt scored 21 points and Kansas State held Memphis scoreless the last 4:05 in a come-from-behind 62-61 win over the Tigers Wednesday night.
Memphis (4-3) had a chance for the last shot, but Kelvin Howell deflected a pass to Travis Reynolds and Kansas State (5-1) recovered the ball as time expired.
Kansas State, playing without leading scorer Cortez Groves, who is injured, twice overcame a 12-point deficit to win its fifth straight game.
Memphis went on a 9-2 run to take a 52-40 lead with 12:03 left.
Kelvin Howell scored with 2:13 left cut the Tigers' lead to one, then hit two free throws with 1:29 left to give Kansas State the lead for good.
Kansas State held the Tigers to 43 percent shooting and forced 21 turnovers.
Josh Reid added 12 points for Kansas State. Marcus Moody led the Tigers with 15 points and Keiron Shine had 13.
Moody scored eight points in the first two minutes as the Tigers took a quick 15-7 lead.
Kansas State mounted its first comeback when Tony Kitt made three consecutive field goals to bring the Wildcats within six with 4:07 to go in the half. Memphis led 38-33 at halftime.
