Men's Hoops Jumps Ahead Early, Can't Hold Lead

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - C.J. Pepper scored 20 points and Chico Fletcher got 10 of his 16 points from the free throw line Thursday as Arkansas State beat Memphis 84-72.
The Tigers led 36-31 at the half and had the hot hand until the break, shooting 52 percent to 33 percent for Arkansas State. The roles reversed in the second half, with the Indians making 52 percent from the field to 36 percent for Memphis. Also, ASU made 19-of-25 from the free throw line in the second period to 3-of-10 for Memphis.
The lead went back and forth in the second half until ASU went on a 17-2 run, that started when Pepper took a Fletcher pass and made a layup for 53-51 with 8:05 to play. Pepper scored 10 points during the run, 6 from the field and 4 from the free throw line.
Pepper made 7-of-14 field goals while Fletcher was 3-for-10 but had nine assists. ASU's DeShawn Denson contributed 14 points, including 6-of-10 from the line, and Odie Williams made 4-of-5 3-pointers for his 12 points.
Memphis was led by Marcus Moody's 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting. He made four 3-pointers in six attempts. On the night, Memphis made 10-of-18 from 3-point land, including 3-of-6 by Keiron Shine, who scored 13 points, the only other Tiger in double-figures.
